Director of Jane Austen Dancing Karen Millyard
Karen Millyard has a background in performing arts, history and English literature. A professional dance teacher since the 1980s, she has been calling English Country Dances for many years and is known for her clear teaching, concise calling and lively sense of fun.
Karen works both with the general public and experienced dancers of all ages, in historic sites, libraries, museums, for Education Days, cultural programmes and the community. Recent gigs include performing and teaching dances at Harbourfront Centre, leading balls at Fort George and Fort Erie, and teaching historical dance to children at the Royal Ontario Museum during March Break.
Also known as an entertaining and interesting speaker, she has a repertoire of illustrated lectures on various historical and literary topics and is also a consultant, choreographer and designer. She was recently made a Fellow of the International Napoleonic Society for her work bringing historical experiences to the public.
Karen’s beautifully dressed demo group is available for dance performances at public and private events. She also teaches dance for weddings and other private and corporate functions, and can supply musicians for these events. And yes, she travels!
